Dan Turcotte is a man for which creativity is not just something he does but something that drives him. Color is like candy for Dan. He is a painter, sculptor, inventor and graphic designer. He and his wife Stephanie own Turcotte Design, a design company in Bennington, VT that specializes in signs and vehicle graphics. Dan is as comfortable painting on canvas as laying a hot graphic on a sporty car. He has a passion for vintage Volkswagens, and has a 1983 GTI that he has turned from a junkyard reject into a show car, inside and out.
Dan has designed the interiors of themed Night Clubs in Tampa, Florida, which gave him the experience to build unusual things. In a creative frenzy, he created Lily the Pumpkin Eating Dinosaur for the Apple Barn. Lily is 60 feet long, sports a powerful mouth that has no problem smashing pumpkins, has a terrifying roar, has smoke spewing from her nostrils, and her eyes glow.
Stephanie Calabro comes from a family of musicians, but found her creative niche not in music but in graphic art. Stephanie hates the cold but loves Vermont. She loves her dogs, Milo and Jasmine, the official greeters at Turcotte Design, a design company that she and her husband Dan Turcotte own. Stephanie is passionate about commercial design and loves the practical applications of art. She enjoys helping new businesses find an image. She designs logos, business cards, signs and marketing strategies and to get them off to a great start.
Stephanie came up with the concept and overall design for "King Moose Uncommon", the Egyptian themed moose sponsored by the Center for Restorative Justice. She researched Egyptian art so that the decoration on the moose would reflect the Egyptian style and she learned how to write the name and date in hieroglyphs. It was decided that the moose should start by being completely guilded with gold leaf. Dan then took the imagery provided by Stephanie and went to work painting over the gold and adding his own unique spin to his wife's vision.
