Matthew Perry is a 1982 graduate of the Swain School of Design. He holds a degree in Graphic design. Matthew is the creator of the cartoon strip "Cyrus & Ida" which appears weekly in the Vermont News Guide. Perry's drawings, paintings and sculpture are inspired by his surroundings, whether in Vermont or through his travels to Europe and Central America. "I look at most of my work as documentation, documenting an era, whether it's an old ice cream stand in jeopardy of being town down or a brightly outfitted snowboarder. It's about time and place, community and recording it." In 1994, Perry and his wife Patricia Pedreira co-founded the Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE), a non-profit community arts organization. As artistic director, Perry oversees the year-round programs and exhibitions as well as conducts several classes in the visual arts. Matthew, Patricia and their son Maxwell, four cats, one dog and at last count, 28 chickens reside in a renovated brick factory along the Paran Creek in North Bennington, Vermont.
